- Double-headed tuned cylindrical drum of the Mijikenda-Digo people of the coastal region of Kenya. Forms a family with the mchirima set of drums. The separate drum gives the rhythm while the four others give some sort of a song. The chapuo is played on both sides. Tuning by tightening the chords by hitting the rings on which the membbranes ore stretched; held horizontally, tied to the waste; 2 pitches, each membrane is tuned differently. The whole set is used in the Sengenya dance, and used to heal sick persons; it takes a whole night to heal
