Concept information
Definition
- The sogeum is a transverse wind instrument made of bamboo shorter than the daegeum. Along with the daegeum and junggeum, it is one of the three bamboo flutes of the Unified Silla Period. According to Akhakgwebeom it is said to be the same as the structure of daegeum, but the sogeum has no membrane hole and shorter than the junggeum. It only has one mouth hole and six finger holes. No written record about it had been found since described in Akhakgwebeom, and the sogeum is considered to be the same as the dangjeok of the present time, and both names are used to refer one same instrument.
