Definition

  • Large lyre, created by Dominic Ogari, as a base version of the Obokano. The sound box is a carved out log. Twelve nylon strings, in yellow, red, blue and green. Five small sticks glued horizontally together form the bridge. The rikano is three obokano in one. Three different tunings are possible, to play three different kinds of repertory. When the player is not singing, he can change the tunings during the performance. Played during dance performance, single or when ientertaining people. There are only two versions up til now : one in California (Los Angeles), one in Nairobi. "Ri" is the Abagusii word for Giant.
