  • Percussion instrument of the Luo people of West Kenya. Two open metal rings which vary in pitches when struck.One is held by the big toe and the other one is held by the thumb. They are both placed on a wooden soundbox, of which the lower part is half open, and which is struck on the side as well with a rubber stick. The nyangile provides rhythm in the Ramogi dance and the Ohangla dance; in Ramogi it plays solo; in Ohangla it is played with the metal Ohangla drums.
