Definition

  • One or more strings are stretched between fixed points. The string bearer and the resonator are organically united and cannot be separated without destroying the instrument. The plane of the strings lies at right angles to the sound-table; a line joining the lower ends of the strings would point towards the neck. The harp has no pillar. The neck curves away from the resonator. Sounded by the bare fingers. (en)
